Bursary List...

There are two ways to apply for local bursaries, depending on the bursary.

  • Common Application Form
    • Some local bursaries use a common application form. Click here to complete the Common Application Form online (previously referred to as the "pink sheet".
    • You only need to complete the Common Application Form once for all the bursaries using the common form.
    • Deadline for bursaries that use the common application form is May 13, 2016.

  • Individual Application Forms
    • Other local bursaries require your to complete individual application forms for each bursary.

The table below shows the list of local bursaries. The first column will indicate if you apply for the bursary via the Pink Sheet or by individual application forms. The application forms are available in the Scholarship Binder in Guidance.

Application Antigonish Farmers' Mutual April 20, 2017 $1,000

Antigonish Farmers' Mutual is providing another benefit to its policyholders. In order to help students offset the high cost of post secondary education, seven (7) $ 1,000 scholarships are awarded on an annual basis. Please read the eligibility requirements herein and if you qualify, simply complete and return the application form. The applicant must be a resident of ANTIGONISH, GUYSBOROUGH, PICTOU, INVERNESS, VICTORIA, RICHMOND, CAPE BRETON, COLCHESTER, CUMBERLAND, HANTS, OR HALIFAX County.

CIBC Scholastic Award


NO Update $4,000 To be awarded to a student who shows financial need, leadership achievements in community or school affairs as reflected by extracurricular activities and provide two letters of reference outlining the applicant's leadership ability and participation in extracurricular activity and who is attending St. FX in the fall.

Will be awarded to a student pursuing a post secondary education in the Automotive Repair Technician program.

For students who are residents of East Hants, demonstrated a great deal of interest and involvement in the community, enrolled in a post secondary institution with intentions of a career in a health profession or public service.

Application Dr. P. Anthony Johnstone Memorial Entrance Scholarship March 31, 2017 $6,000

To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must live in Nova Scotia, be graduating from high school and beginning an undergraduate degree program at a Maritime university in the fall. The applicant must also have demonstrated an interest in multiculturalism and human rights.

Application E.H. Horne School Bursary May 31, 2017 2 x $500 For any student who attended E.H. Horne School, or who had a sibling, parent or grandparent who attended the school and is attending college or university
Application Earthkeepers Bursary June 1, 2017 $500 Open to both former and current Earthkeepers employees who will be graduating from Hants East in June 2017.
Application East Coast Credit Union Feb. 28, 2017 $1,000 Applicant must be a member, or the child/grand child of a member of the East Coast Credit Union. They must also be enrolled for your first year at an accredited vocational program, college or university for the upcoming academic year and a Canadian citizen.
Application East Hants Crime Prevention June 1, 2017 $500 Grade 12 students pursuing a post-secondary education and focusing on a career in law or law enforcement.
  East Hants Health Authority / YHC NOT for 2017 2 x $250 Open to any graduating student.

If you apply to the Enfield Legion, you do not need to replicate your application for this bursary.

Applicants must be enrolled full-time in the nursing program at Cape Breton University. Applicants will be adjudicated upon the basis of their financial need and academic standing.

Common Application Form Gordie Singer Memorial May 15, 2017 $750 The student that most deserves it, post secondary education with a concentration in the Trades, strong commitment to his/her studies for their three years, exemplary work ethic and achieves at their max potential both in and out of school, is always willing to lend a hand to help someone else.
Application Grace Bethel Health Education Bursary May 21, 2017 $1,000 Students entering HEALTH related fields of study that can be entered directly from High School are eligible to apply – Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Lab Technician, etc.
Application Gregory P. Pentz Memorial Bursary May 31, 2017 $500

Offering $500 towards a deserving student within the boundaries of the Suburban District and its member clubs. Criteria:

Attending post secondary in September 2017.

For the last three years, either

A) Played for a Suburban District Club

B) Was a coach or assistant coach for a Suburban District Club in seasons, when you did not play

C) Was a referee within the Suburban District in seasons when you did not play.

Suburban District Clubs Include: Surburban FC, Scotia Soccer Club, Bedford Soccer Association, Sackville United Soccer Association and East Hants Soccer Association.

Common Application Form Herman Juurlink Memorial Bursary May 15, 2017 $500 First Nation student who has demonstrated qualities of leadership and citizenship in the school and community, maintained a satisfactory academic record, plans to pursue a post-secondary education or training the year immediately following graduation.
Application HERH Music Bursary May 31, 2017   Interested graduating students must submit a typed letter to the Music Director indicating why he/she should be considered for this bursary.

Jordan Boyd Leadership Award

April 21, 2017 $2,000 The Jordan Boyd Leadership Award was established by the family of Jordan Boyd, with the generous assistance and support of the community. It was established as a way to honor and remember a special young man and at the same time give back to the hockey community that Jordan so loved. It is hoped that scholarships will be of assistance to recipients to pursue their dream of higher education in the same way Jordan vigorously pursued his dreams.  Scholarship amounts for 2016 applicants have been set at $2,000 each.

To be considered, scholarship applicants must:

  • Be a person with a permanent disability. 'Permanent Disability' means a limitation that restricts the ability of a person to perform the activities necessary to participate in educational activities or in the labour force within the range considered normal. This limitation is expected to remain with the person for life.
  • Be a permanent resident of Nova Scotia
  • Be entering or continuing studies, at the undergraduate level, in a Canadian post-secondary institution that is recognized by the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada
  • Not be involved in the selection process or be a close family member of any scholarship selection committee member.

Soccer Nova Scotia is pleased to offer university entrance scholarships to outstanding members of Soccer Nova Scotia.  The recipient must commence post-secondary studies at a Canadian university or college in the same year the award is presented.

Soccer Nova Scotia scholarships are entrance scholarships and are not renewable. The scholarships are awarded for one academic year, payable after September 7th upon proof of registration at a university or college. Successful recipients of Soccer Nova Scotia scholarships must agree that a promotional photograph of themselves can be used for promotional purposes.

As an applicant for the Soccer Nova Scotia scholarship, you must submit the following to the address below.

1. Complete application;
2. High school transcripts (Grade 11 & Grade 12 to January);
3. Small photograph of yourself for publicity purposes.

The Wessex Scholarship (IWK)

April 10, 2017 $5,000 Eligible applicants will be from Atlantic Canada and entering in a post-secondary health care degree level program at an Atlantic Canadian institution. A minimum grade average of 80 per cent is required.
